Architecture Styles
Federal
The Federal style, circa 1785-1830 influenced by English architectural books that reflected designs of British designers like Robert and James Adam. The Federal style in New England combined Adamesque details with native innovations to create uniquely American architecture. It is typified by a low pitched roof, smooth facade, large glazed areas and elliptical fan light with flanking slender side lights. Tripart windows often are framed in recessed arches. New Hampshire's most distinguished and plentiful pre-Civil War houses are in this style.
